I'm a huge fan of sushi. I never miss having sushi wherever I can get it, in buffets, Japanese restos, homemade sushi by friends, FamilyMart, etc. I wish having sushi would be more convenient for me.
What fun when I was invited by Wasabi Warriors to try their first Philippine location at the Gramercy Residences in Makati City. Wasabi Warriors is an Australian sushi chain with a green heart, with locations in Australia, UAE, and Hong Kong.
In support of the future of the Philippines, Wasabi Warriors sources organic ingredients from local farmers and suppliers and as part of their recruitment program, collaborate with local youth organizations in assisting the social and professional integration of young adults living in extreme poverty. Moreover, daily leftovers are donated to a local foundation to minimize food wastage.
Wasabi Warriors Gramercy location is the first location to have a sit-in area, the majority of the locations are to-go kiosks. Kimmi Siu-Dewar, the general manager for the Philippine franchise, mentioned that Filipinos love to sit down and eat hence the spacious sit-down area for the first Manila branch.
the sushi robot |
Wasabi Warrior's sushi is not made by hand, but by this sushi robot. :)
This sushi robot can prepare up to 500 sushi rolls in one hour. Amazing, isn't it?
For the appetizer, we had Miso Soup (Php 50), Gyoza (Php 80 for 3 pcs, Php 150 for 6 pcs), and Seaweed Salad (Php 100).

Seaweed Salad |
I loved the Miso Soup and the Seaweed Salad was surprisingly delicious. I liked the fried gyoza (but I prefer steamed). We were encouraged to use the wasabi mayo and spicy mayo over soy sauce.
Wasabi Mayo & Spicy Mayo |
Both mayo dips are prepared fresh daily. Take note of the biodegradable or reusable containers.
We also sampled some of their sushi rolls: California (Php 100), Honey Soy Chicken (Php 120), Fresh Salmon & Avocado (Php 150), Spicy Katsu Chicken (Php 120), Chicken Teriyaki (Php 120), Beef Teriyaki (Php 120), Seaweed (Php 100), and Spicy Tuna (Php 100).
Wasabi Warriors also have Black Rice and Brown Rice Sushi: Seaweed (Php 100) and Fresh Salmon & Avocado (Php 150) for on black rice and Spicy Tuna (Php 100) and Spicy Katsu Chicken (Php 120) on brown rice.
Seared Salmon and Fresh Salmon Nigiri |
What I really loved was the Fresh Salmon Nigiri and Seared Salmon Nigiri. I have yet to try the Ebi Fry Nigiri, but I bet those were delicious too. Nigiri Packs are Php 100 apiece, Php 250 for 3 pcs, and Php 400 for 6 pcs.
Wasabi Warriors also have hot boxes. I had the Beef Teriyaki Rice (Php 250), while my fellow foodies sampled the Chicken Teriyaki Udon (Php 250).

The beef teriyaki was quite tender and flavorful, and enough to keep you full (with an order of sushi, of course).
Inari Seaweed |
You may also grab Warriors Packs for Php 350 per set (Chicken Warrior, Ocean Warrior, Veggie Warrior, Mixed Warrior), Sashimi Pack (Php 300), or Little Warrior Pack (Php 150). You may also try the Inari Seaweed for Php 60 apiece.
Overall, I was impressed by how fresh the ingredients are without burning a hole in your pocket. More importantly, I was amazed at how Wasabi Warriors give importance to using local resources and helping the less fortunate. I do hope they'll open up more locations in Manila really soon!
Thanks to Tisha of GeiserMaclang and Kimmi of Wasabi Warriors Philippines for having us.

well that's nice of them to support local farmers and donate leftovers because there's just too much food wasted nowadays. i'll have to try this one out, especially since it's near my place.

I would love to read your review about this, halfwhiteboy! :)
DeleteI really love the fact that they donate the leftovers instead of putting them in the garbage.I remember this old movie where the character is working in a fast food chain. I was shocked as she is when I saw the unsold burgers being thrown away.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to this place one of these days. The price is cheap even, how amazing.
Yep! and the ingredients are all organic. :)
DeleteAwww...I would love to try this but its in the south so...nganga! =)
