One of the perks of being a blogger is creating friendships with fellow bloggers. Aside from food blogs and travel blogs, I also enjoy reading personal blogs. Reading personal blogs is like knowing somebody thoroughly even if you haven't met them yet. These blogs give me insights on how other people deal with real life and I'm happy to find out that there are people crazier than I do. HAHAHA! (I'm joking! :P)
I was fortunate to finally meet two of my favorite personal bloggers, Jay and TR. Jay was in Manila then for a short vacation, so we took the chance to have a quick meetup. Since we agreed to meet up at Eastwood Mall, we chanced to see Kogi Bulgogi so we decided to have dinner there. Also, Jay always mentions that he loves Korean food. :)
Kogi Bulgogi is the sister resto of Tokyo Cafe, Stackers Burger Cafe, Peri-Peri, and Parmigiano. Their Eastwood branch has been there for ages but I haven't given it a visit before, thinking it was super expensive.
All Korean meals are served with banchan or appetizers.
For banchan, we had marbled baby potatoes, kimchi, anchovies, okra, pickled eggplant, and bean sprouts. I love the sweet and salty anchovies and the potatoes. :)
To begin our meal, we had Soft Shell Crab Salad (Php 197, regular) and Haemul Pa Jeon (Php 175).

Haemul Pa Jeon |
The serving for Soft Shell Crab Salad was quite generous, considering that we ordered the regular. Haemul Pa Jeon is a mixed seafood pancake, a very simple Korean dish similar to an omelette.
We also had Ramyeon (Php 145) and Salmon Skin Roll (Php 208 for 8 pcs).

For the Ramyeon, we can choose the hotness level from 1-10, and we chose 2 because we're such weaklings.hahaha. Anyway, the noodles tasted like instant noodles, but the broth was good enough for me. As a sushi fan, I loved the Salmon Skin Roll. Expect that Korean sushi to be much bigger than its Japanese counterparts though. :P
We didn't miss having Japchae (Php 258) and Chicken Kalbi (Php 280).

I love Japchae! I actually requested it and I love how sweet it was. Chicken Kalbi is a grilled marinated chicken thigh served with lettuce leaves. Like the Japchae, it was also sweet, which I didn't mind. :) It was supposed to be wrapped in lettuce leaves before eating, but I did some cheating and "forgot" about the leaves after a while.hehe.
Kogi Bulgogi also serves both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. My friends went with Mango Shake and Watermelon Shake (Php 85). I'd love to try the shakes, but my throat wouldn't like it.

Overall, I liked Kogi Bulgogi. The service was impressive and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I wouldn't mind going back to try the Ssambap and the Bulgogi. :) Also, I had a great time with my new friends. I also had dinner at Yabu before Jay leaves the country, and again, it was fun hanging out with them. As of this writing, Jay is already out of the country (thanks for the treat!) It was really nice meeting you guys, hope we'll see each other soon! :)

DeleteRamyeon looks tempting, and the salmon rolls too.
ReplyDeleteThe salmon rolls were amazing! :)
DeleteThat Japchae. I love the sweetness and the "juiceness" of Japchae too. There are people who find it unappetizing because it's sweet. I don't get them.
