After watching The Sound of Music, my friend and I were starving so we walked around Newport Mall to look for somewhere to try while we're there. We found ourselves at Johnny Chow, an Asian fusion restaurant with a very interesting ambiance.
Guess who? |
The servers wear colored wigs (which is kinda cosplay-ish) welcomed us warmly. We opted to seat outside the resto so I wasn't able to take pictures of the interiors. What makes this resto unique is the chairs. Each chair has its own personality. Some of the faces, as I've observed, were Asian stars.
Free Appetizer |
Some of their dishes were also named after popular Asian actors and actresses like the dishes we ordered. We got Jet Li Wagyu (Php 385) and Zhang Ziyi (Php 310). We also ordered Johnny Chow Fried Rice (Php 230).
Jet Li Wagyu |
Zhang Ziyi |
Johnny Chow Fried Rice |
Jet Li Wagyu is black peppered beef with shoestring potatoes. I found it very tender that we were able to finish the dish before Zhang Ziyi. Zhang Ziyi is Johnny Chow's version of Mandarin Orange Chicken. I like the crispiness of the chicken which combines well with the sweetness of the orange sauce. I could eat it even without rice. Johnny Chow Fried Rice is almost a meal by itself, it's good for 2-3 persons.
Though I found it a little pricey than the usual restaurants I've been to, Johnny Chow is a good choice for sumptuous Asian dishes. I will definitely try their other dishes once I visit the Newport Mall again.

Hey, Michy! I ran a mini-review of this restaurant a few months back in Facebook. And I should say this is the worst restaurant (Marciano, second)among Marvin's group. We didn't like it a bit. I've noticed that Marvin's group is more successful with their Japanese restaurants like John and Yoko and Sumo Sam. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHi Alfred! This is the first resto under Marvin's group that I've visited so I still can't compare it. Will try to visit the other restos and see for myself. Thanks! See you soon! :)
Delete#ArtistaFoodNames trended on twitter yesterday nationally and I bet these Asian actors are one of them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the free appetizer and the image of Vice Ganda. haha
Really? Too bad I don't have twitter yet.haha. :)
DeleteI guess she's Gong Li or Michelle Yeoh, what do you think? :D
yum yum. ^_^ all these food just made me stomach churn though I am already full. ^_^ haha
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Resorts World Manila yet since it's really far from our place. But when I visit it soon, I'll pay a trip to Johnny Chow to try the Jet Li Wagyu :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen this resto when I dropped by Resorts World Manila before; but we went there for the casino so we didn't really have a 'food trip' or something :D
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll try this. :) We were actually there to watch Sound of Music. :) I hope I can visit RW again soon. :)
DeleteI'm drooling! haha
ReplyDelete:D
Johnny Chow is a hit and miss thing for me. But there are a few good ones. Will definitely go back there for the apple iced tea. =)
ReplyDeleteMaybe we got the good ones. hehe. :)
DeleteI'm actually been wanting to go to Johnny Chow's for quite some time.. Cashcashpinoy had a deal for it but I missed out.. I haven't been to resorts world yet either but when I do, this will be my first stop :)
ReplyDeleteReally? Please do and let me know what you think. :)
